Uncle Chris

Adam's brother, Chris, has been serving in the Army in Korea for over a year (actually he left the week we found out we were pregnant!) so he met Alabama for the first time last week. She wasn't sure what to think at first, but I think she warmed up to him pretty fast. (He says she's thinking, "Looks like my Daddy...but different." haha) We had a little family dinner on Monday night at Adam's parent's house because Chris will be leaving to go back to Korea on Friday. It was a fun time. Here is Alabama sitting at the table in her bumbo! Too cute! She did eat some of the sweet potatoes I made while sitting here.

She had fun playing with her Uncle Chris and her cousin Morgan.

We had to take a family picture becuase Chris was feeling left out when he saw the one we took while we were all on a crusie back in the fall. (NO one told me we were going to take a picture by the way!!! I could have at least fixed my hair a little.... haha)

Alabama with her Aunt and Uncle!

Adam, his brother Chris, and sister, Georgia.

So sweet and so stinkin' cute, Morgan and Ethan!

Baby Food Preparation!

So I did go ahead and make the sweet potatoes yesterday to freeze and save for Alabama to eat later. She loved them!!!! (Still doesn' t eat the cereal too good. Guess we'll keep trying.) I wasn't sure what to do so I looked at several websites for inspiration. (I really want to get a book a saw at William's Sonoma on Baby Food Recipes). Here's what I did.
I baked several sweet potatoes on baking sheet.
Then after I peeled them all, I put them in a blender with a splash of Nursery Water. I had to keep "pureeing" until it was the right consistency by stopping and stirring several times. (As you can see, I made a big mess! no surprise there!ha)
I then put a little bit in a jar for her to eat right away and then filled two ice cube trays to freeze for later. I froze them overnight and then transferred to a freezer bag this morning.
I love that I know exactly what is in the baby's food and also I love that it is a lot cheaper than buying premade!!! It was a lot of fun so I think I'll do it again. I bought some organic carrots for the next batch.....

Yard Sale Finds!!!!

This is my first time linking up to Rhoda's blog for her Yard Sale Finds, but I have loved reading everyone's posts for quite a while now! This week was sort of slow around Augusta, but I will share my favorite find from the past couple of weeks. (I did find a few books for my daughter, a swim float, a box of baskets for $5.00, and a couple wooden stamps this week.)

I always have an eye out for chandeliers so when I pulled into this person's driveway and saw this one hanging there on the line, my heart leapt for joy! (Especially since it was 10:30 already!) I looked at the price and it was $20. Great deal, but checked my cash and I only had $12 left. So as I was about to ask the lady if she would take $12 for it, I heard her say, "Everything's half price now!" Oh, My!!!! So I said, "What about the chandelier??" She said what about $8? SOLD!!!
It came with the shades and everything! Look at the curves on this baby!!!! I had my husband install it that very afternoon! What a difference it made in my dining room....added much sophistication!

Five Months Old

Today, Alabama is five months old! I can't believe how quickly she is growing! I know every Mama says that about their baby, but you just don't understand until you have your own!!!
Alabama, here are some things you are really loving right now at 5 months!

Your new Exersaucer.
Beginning to eat new foods.

Your "Moo Moo."

Your "My first Dolly". You just love on that doll and love to eat and hold on to her pigtails! Also your Glow Worm. Since Sweet Potato figured out how to get it to glow for more than one second. You hug him and of course eat his face. The music always gets your to settle down for a second....until it goes off. haha

Reaching for EVERYTHING! You pull our hair, our food and especially paper! You love to crumple it up and of course get it in your mouth if you have the chance!

Being on your tummy. At first, you hated "tummy time", but now when I put you down on your back, you roll right over onto your tummy. You will be crawling before very long!!!!

Visiting Nana and Granny. They are both totally in love with you and love it when we come to see them!

Sleeping in our room instead of your crib. This is something we're going to have to get better about! You only take naps in our bed, but sleep at night sometimes in the cradle next to me.

Your toes!!!!

Science Project

We had some family over tonight and were cooking sausage dogs, hotdogs, and fries. The fries were in the oven, the sausage dogs were boiling and I was beginning to wonder why the hotdogs weren't. I put them on last, but still it should have been plenty of time. When I went over to take a closer look.... I saw the pot MELTING on the stove...yes,...melting!!! I called Adam to come and look as the metal was dripping from the pot onto the burner and under it, as well as onto the stovetop. I couldn't believe it! It was so cool, so I began to poke the metal blob! haha. We were all amazed and couldn't figure out why our best pot, that we've used plenty of times, would just melt away and not boil the water and hotdogs! Then, as Adam pours the water into the sink, we understand............... there was an extra metal mixing bowl in the pot!!!!! So the heat never transfered to the bowl with the liquid/hot dogs...it just made the pot so hot that it melted the bottom off. Weird!

Trying to get it all in....

Well, since I set up my blog, I have had some great things I've wanted to share, but haven't had a chance to post them!
In the past week, Alabama has had some exciting things happen! First of all, she went to the doctor on the 15th for her four month checkup and got the go ahead for beginning to eat cereal and baby foods. We tried rice cereal first on last Thursday. She was too hungry to enjoy it...she wanted instant gratification, not sit and wait for the next bite! haha. Since then, she has had oatmeal cereal, sweet potatoes, and butternut squash. Sometimes she does really good at eating a lot and other times pushes most of it out and gets frustrated. I know she will get the hang of it with a little more practice! I'm also thinking about making some of her babyfood soon...I'll post more about that later! :-)

She is also sitting up some on her own! When we first started practicing, she would fall forward almost immediately. Now, she can sit up for at least a minute on her own! She is doing so great!

I'm also loving how she has just started to reach out for me!!! Melts.my.heart!!!!!!! I love that girl so much and am having such a great time being her Mommy!

Here it goes.....

Here is my attempt to blog about the events of my daily life with my beautiful daughter, Alabama, and my husband, Adam, and everything else that goes in it! In every aspect of my life, I see that God's grace is sufficient for our every need! As Alabama is about to be 5 months old, I realize that these few months have passed by so quickly and I, sadly, have no memories written to preserve each day or week in our minds. Hopefully this blog will help to do just that!
